Product Review for Crayola Dry-Erase Crayons

Hello everyone!  The other day I was at Target and found a package of  Crayola’s new Dry-Erase crayons.  I have heard about dry erase crayons and I was really curious to try them.

I have to tell you that as a teacher of young children–I can’t stand using dry erase markers with my kiddos!  Obviously, they are functional and necessary in a kindergarten classroom, but I hate how they dry out if you lose the tops.  Not to mention that they stain if they get on your clothes, and if students press down too hard on the markers when they write, then they are instantly ruined!  These markers  are also expensive!

So–by now you can probably see why I was so excited by the dry erase crayons!  For around $4 you can get something for the students to write with that won’t stain or dry out!  The package comes with 8 crayons in the following colors–red, orange, yellow, green blue, purple, black and brown.  A mitt or sock is also included to use an eraser.  And the eraser is basically made out of sweatshirt material.  The crayons write really easily on whiteboards, but they are a little difficult to erase.  You really have to press down firmly with the mitt eraser to erase the crayon marks, but it does not leave any type of residue.

Overall, I really liked this product and would recommend it to any teacher.  I feel that although the crayon marks can be a little difficult to erase, it is worthwhile to purchase a product that will last longer than the traditional dry erase markers.  I hoped that you enjoyed my first product review!

These looking interesting; thanks for the review. I am frustrated with dry erase markers for the same reasons you are. These would be nice to include in some literacy bags, too. Thanks for the information!

I, too, saw these new dry erase crayons and picked them up! I get frustrated with using, and keeping, dry erase markers with kindergarteners. I can’t wait to use mine and thanks for the tip about erasing.

I happened upon the Crayola dry-erase crayons last year when school was beginning. I used them at my teaching table occasionally and did like them. They are a bit hard to erase, but I always told my kids to “use their muscles” so they pretended to be “Coach”. 🙂 Overall – great product – I plan to buy more for my classroom this year.
