Hello everyone and welcome! I am a kindergarten teacher who lives in beautiful Central California with my wonderful husband Andy , our four beautiful (and energetic kids) and our dog–Coal. We are both teachers and we love our jobs!
This year is my twelfth year of teaching! I’m telling ya–time has flown! Most of my teaching experience has been in early primary–grades Pre-k to second! In addition to holding two teaching credentials–Multiple Subject and Level 1Educational Specialist credentials, I also earned a Master’s Degree in Education a few years back.
I created this page to be a resource for teachers and parents, and of course myself! It is so nice to just write down and store your ideas. Feel free to look around or share any ideas. It is always welcomed! I hope that you enjoy this blog!

This is my all time favorite wedding picture from our wedding in Yosemite!
I love the ideas that you have created. Am I able to download them and put them on my website to share with my parents with all credit given to you or would you rather me provide a link to your webpage with it on it? I think these would be so valuable for them! Your site is incredible. Thanks so much for all you do!
Dear Barbara,
I love your website and would like to put it in my favorite links page on my website.
Linda
We are lucky to have you as our boys teacher. We look forward to this school year. I think the boys are going to make huge strides this year. Keep up the good work!! I love your website. I can tell that these kids are truly in your heart. It’s so nice to see.
I liked your site but had a hard time viewing the pictures enlarged, is there a trick to getting rid of that little box that appears and being able to scroll the pictures over to view the whole thing enlarged?
Thank you for the time spent sharing.
Billie, teacher for 33 years
I just stumbled upon your site. It looks amazing! I plan on sharing it with the other K teachers I know. Thank you for making your wonderful knowledge available to others. You are a skilled teacher and we benefit from your experiences.
I love your website! It’s very helpful when planning and my students really enjoy the activities. Please continue to add ideas and links, I use this site every month!

Mrs. Kilburn,
I finally got the chance to look at your website thoroughly. OH! MY GOODNESS! There is so much stuff–I could spend hours on here and one ink of cartridge in one sitting—so I must log off now!!! You have done a great job and hundreds of hours in it I’m sure. Keep it up. I will definitally share this with my fellow teachers and parents. Thank you for your time as Ashlyn’s teacher.

Love the “words I know words I don’t know sort”. We use handwriting without tears. Would you be willing to email me the file in word so I could change the font from D’Nealian? Thank you for your consideration. Cathy K fellow kindergarten teacher 😉
beautiful picture of you and your husband in black and white at Yosimite.
Barbara,
LOVE your site!
I teach in an inner-city school in Wilmington De; most of my students are at the poverty level.
I am also spec ed certified….which is a LOT like teaching kids from impoverished backgrounds – they don’t have the background or exposure to many things including vocabulary, etc.
I really love the TPR video of the alphabet and would LOVE to play it in my school for my kids and I to do together but our district blocks YouTube. Do you have or know of another source for this that ISN’T YouTube based? Thanks!
Hi Barbara: Thank you so much for sharing all your wonderful ideas. You are very gifted and a special gift to the many special children that you teach! Keep up the great work; many blessings.
I like your Web Page. It is very informative.
I started by looking at your Ocean theme.
I have my own Web Page for two and a half years.
My Web Page is curriculum based.
I use it to teach my first grade students reading, math, science, phonics, and writing. It is an elementary page for grades kindergarten through fifth. I have done training for Impact II. I am a Disseminator of my site. I show other teachers how to teach from it. It is very comprehensive.
Since you teach Kindergarten click: Kindergarten Math and Reading Strand Instruction. I teach whole and small group instruction using this site 50% of my day. Please add me to your page. http://web.mac.com/missammonswebpage1
I have a smartboard, an LCD Projector, a Smartboard document camera, and a Smartliner.
I teach with technology. My students love it.
Just came across your site… at the END of the year! But what a landslide. You (of course) have all the links that I’ve accumulated and MUCH MUCH more. Thanks so much for all the work you’ve done here. I’m just developing my own wordpress blog, to tie in what I do at school – for parents/kids to access at home (especially Computer Lab sites) I’ll be sharing your site with others :).
Great job!! Love it!!
I happened to stumble across your site by looking for k- literacy printables. I find that I come across the same websites whenever I am online looking for K resources.
What you have created is GREAT! I am happy to find something new & fresh!
I love this site. I think I have saved almost every printable you have on here. I found some mini word family books on scholastic for FREE! I thought you may like these. Here’s the link.

can you email me the name of the program that you use to make your sight word readers? Thanks!
Hi Stacey;
To answer your question–I don’t use anything fancy, it’s just Microsoft Word. I use text boxes to manipulate the objects. If you are interested in learning more about this, then check out my blog post here for more info:

Barbara,
I think i’ve seen that you’ve posted some incredible things you’ve made on the DJ inkers idea gallery. Is there any way I can get copies of some of your creations????
This might sound silly but are you the B. Kilburn that created the Math Word Wall on the DJ Inkers Website? If you are, would I be able to purchase a copy of it? I love the DJ Inkers clip art.
Thank you for your time,
Michelle Applegate

If you are not Im so sorry to bother you.

Barbara,
Your website is fantastic! I discovered it while searching for ideas for my own self-contained kindergarten level class, and just had to share with my grade-level colleagues. Thanks so much for sharing all of your resources and ideas! Have a great school year!
Thank you sooooo much! What a wonderful resource you have provided us and it is appreciated.
I am currently going through NU, earning my Master’s in Special Ed/Early Childhood Development. Whew, I’m so tired!
Please keep up the good work, it makes our teaching experiences so much easier.
I’m a special education teacher, with a son who has special needs. I stumbled upon your blog while searching for ideas to use at home with my son to promote social skills and academic support. Thanks so much for collecting and sharing these resources!
Sandra
You do such an AWESOME job compiling resources for teachers! I love your thematic unit section. I have recently added lots and lots of free printables to File Folder Heaven, including a complete Transportation Unit and a complete Apple Themed Unit. Each unit includes 1 Make-a Match-Book, 2 activity mats and three file folder games. They would fit in very nicely with your other incredible resources posted under these themes. Just wanted to share. Love your website! 🙂

I just wanted to say thank you for your website, this makes me want to even challenge myself more as a kindergarten teacher for my kiddos.
I did have a question, I am looking for a new assessment form or report card to use and I thought that you had one on your web site that I had seen before. If you did could you post that back on here again or email me this, it was very helpful and I really liked how it was layed out for easy filling out and that families could understand the form as well.
Thanks,
Staci Underhill

WOW, you are truly and amazing teacher. I love all your lessons. Is there any way you could email me, or tell me where to find your Hand Print Poems of the year (calendar) May 2010 is when you posted. SO cute! Thank you for your time and response!
I am wanted to inform you that our clients recently removed the Best Kindergarten Teaching Blog listing from their website, as well as removed the badge information from their servers. This was done in order to make way for updated blog listings that should go up shortly. As the image was removed from their servers, the badge now appears to only be a text link that says “Best Blog Badge” and the page it links to 404s. We wanted to let you know about this change so that you can remove the now defunct badge on your post https://mrskilburnkiddos.wordpress.com/2011/05/29/wow-50-best-blogs-award/. We appreciate your promotion of the blog list, and look forward to reading more great posts from you in the future!
Please let me know if you have any further questions.
Thank you,

I am trying to find a worksheet that was pinned by a friend on pinterest, but I cannot find a spot to “search” your page. Can you help?
The worksheet says “I can…describe how a character responds to a major event or challenge”
Thank You!
Hi Cheryl! I believe you are referring to the activity that is featured on this post here: https://mrskilburnkiddos.wordpress.com/2014/06/24/teaching-major-events-and-creature-reports/ I hope this helps!
