Addition and Subtraction

In the spring I generally introduce addition and subtraction concepts to students.  I always start with addition problems and I typically just focus upon addition to 5 and then solving problems to 10.  Then once I feel that students have mastered this concept, I introduce subtraction.

Here are some math mats that I created to assist students with making groups for addition and subtraction with manipulatives.  I glue these to piece of construction paper and then laminate for durability.  Also, after it is laminated, students can use dry erase markers to write on their mats as well.  I hope that you find these helpful:

You can also create fun games to play with addition/subtraction facts.  All you need is some flash cards and game boards.  Abcteach.com has some great printable games that are free!  Here is the link:  ABC Teach Printable Board Games
